Outplacement and Retrenchment Counselling

Outplacement is the service offered by employers to employees who lose their jobs, generally through restructuring, acquisitions or mergers. Anchor Executive Recruitment's support service aims to provide affected employees with the necessary counselling, practical support and marketing tools, at a time when they are normally in a poor position to "sell" themselves back into new job situations. Particularly vulnerable are people in the latter part of their careers, as well as those with long service to their employer. Employees with highly specialised skills generally also experience difficulty restarting their careers.

Anchor Executive Recruitment's structured programme has been designed to help the vulnerable employees to identify viable career options to pursue, equipping them to effectively market themselves to prospective employers.

The Process is set up in five stages:

  • Guiding the employees to evaluate their skills and competencies to identify their transferable skills in the context of the prevailing employment market.
  • Developing a CV that effectively markets these transferable skills to identified market employment sectors, and sets the person apart from competing applicants.
  • Learning the skills of job hunting through proactive contact with the employment industry, prospective employers and utilising all levels of contacts in networking.
  • Learning the skills of self-marketing, both in the networking environment, as well as in the crucial interview situation.
  • Counselling the employee in negotiating employment conditions that are reflective of the employee's value to the employer, and also coaching the individual to enter the new position in a proactive and positive manner.

Our process helps the individual to self-analyse and go about their new challenge in a structured manner. This process builds confidence and is of considerable value for the remainder of their careers. By working with Anchor Executive Recruitment on the Outplacement and Retrenchment Counselling programme, they are also far more alert to events that might impact on their future careers.

The service is offered at several levels:

MANAGEMENT, SENIOR AND SPECIALIST STAFF:

This occurs on a one-to-one basis and consists of initial assessment and counselling of up to 10 hours over a stipulated time period, personality profiling and identification of behavioural strengths and weaknesses. A further period of guidance for marketing and job search of at least 3 hours is followed up by coaching sessions of at least 6 hours. On-going telephone or personal support is available for a further 12 weeks by arrangement.

MIDDLE MANAGEMENT AND SENIOR ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF

Middle Management and Senior Administrative Staff can be seen in small groups of two or three people together, and dependent on their needs, a time plan will be arranged accordingly.

OPERATIONAL STAFF

Operational Staff will be handled in larger groups of up to eight people, and a structured plan to accommodate their needs is mapped out at the outset.
