This long-standing Non-Profit organisation is looking to appoint a national Communications and Media Manager to their Head Office in Cape Town, who will be responsible for all Communications, and Media both Internally and Externally, across all Donors, Stakeholders, Communities and Government bodies. The role requires a person who has a very strong background and understanding of Human rights, and in particular, Women and Children’s rights, and socio-economic rights and issues around Constitutional rights. Ideally, the organisation works towards ensuring alleviation of poverty and accountability of Governance from relevant stakeholders and Government, thus this successful candidate must be fully aware of the socio-political status and current affairs impacts.
The overall purpose of the Communications & Media Manager role, is to develop and communicate materials, messages and work of the organization to a range of users, both external and internal, so as to support the programmes and advancement of the organization. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a team with a transparent, accountable and consultative style and embrace the values, vision, strategies and policies of the organisation. Ideally it will be a candidate who is able to think pro-actively, creatively and responsively, prepared to work under pressure and to deadline, able to work overtime if necessary, and to travel occasionally.
Preference will be given to Women in line with the organisation’s Employment Equity Plan.
The CORE RESPONSIBILITIES include:
– COMMUNICATIONS: all public media, social media and newsletter, board reports and company
– PUBLIC RELATIONS: annual report, organisational branding and marketing, communication, etc.
– INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS: document and material management from the public, etc.
– PROJECT & STAFF MANAGEMENT
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates for this position MUST have a degree in Journalism OR a relevant degree in social sciences with Communications experience.
Sound knowledge and understanding of key issues in the area of human rights, social justice, poverty and inequality, and good grasp of the broader political and developmental context in South Africa
Knowledge and understanding of the role of civil society in building democracy
Experience and understanding media and communications, information management with Advanced English writing skills
Excellent project management skills, strong planning, organisational, strategic and analytical skills
Experience in document development, information and communication technology
Planning and organisational skills – prioritise work and manage time and projects effectively
Candidates MUST have a valid driver’s licence.
A minimum of 5 years journalism experience and at least five years of Communications experience and Staff Management
Fluency in both spoken and written English , plus at least one other official South African language.
